Hey everyone, I just heard that Discord might be forcing BotGhost to close down soon. I’m honestly not sure how to feel about this whole situation. On one hand, I was never really a huge fan of how BotGhost operated their service. The interface always felt clunky to me and there were some features that didn’t work as smoothly as I hoped. But on the other hand, it was still a useful platform for people who wanted to create Discord bots without coding knowledge. I know a lot of beginners relied on it to get started with bot development. What does everyone else think about this news? Are you surprised that Discord is taking this action? Do you think this will affect other similar bot-building platforms too?
Not surprised at all. Discord’s been cracking down on third-party services for a while now, especially bigger ones like BotGhost. I used their platform briefly a few years back - it was decent, but there were always compliance issues with Discord’s terms hanging over everything. The stricter verification requirements and API limits were pretty clear signs this was coming. What worries me is the precedent this sets. If they can take down BotGhost, other popular platforms are probably next. New users will either have to learn to code from scratch or hunt down sketchy alternatives.
This hits close to home - I had three bots running through BotGhost for my gaming community. I get that Discord wants tighter control, but the timing sucks for smaller communities that rely on these services. The real problem? Discord hasn’t given non-technical users any decent alternatives. Yeah, you can learn Python or JavaScript, but that’s months of work for something that used to take minutes on BotGhost. I’m already migrating to self-hosted solutions and it’s been a complete nightmare trying to recreate the same features. Discord really needs to think about how this screws over thousands of communities who built their entire moderation around these platforms.
totally get it! botghost wasn’t perfect but it was a lifesaver for people who didn’t want to code. discord’s gonna scare off new developers if they keep killing these services. really hope they change their mind!
