Can a Discord bot stream audio directly from a Digital Audio Workstation?

Hey everyone, I’ve been wondering about something cool. You know how Discord bots can play stereo audio, unlike regular accounts? Well, I had this idea. Maybe we could use a bot to stream audio straight from a DAW like Ableton Live into a Discord channel.

I’ve been looking into it, and I found some stuff about audio playback for bots. But I’m not sure how to set up live streaming. The goal is to stream audio without the lag you’d get from video streaming apps.

I think it’d be awesome for making music together online. Discord seems perfect for this because people could chat and react in real-time.

Does anyone know if this is doable? I’m kinda lost on how to put it all together. Any tips or ideas would be super helpful!

While it’s an intriguing concept, streaming directly from a DAW to Discord via a bot presents several technical challenges. Latency would be a major concern, as even small delays could disrupt real-time collaboration. Additionally, maintaining consistent audio quality over Discord’s infrastructure might prove difficult. A more feasible approach could be to use a dedicated streaming platform designed for low-latency audio transmission, then integrate that with Discord for chat functionality. This would likely provide a more stable and higher-quality experience for music collaboration. Have you considered exploring specialized music collaboration platforms that might better suit your needs?

yo that’s a dope idea! i’ve messed around with discord bots before but never thought about streaming from a daw. might be tricky to set up tho. have u looked into virtual audio cables? could maybe route ur daw output thru one of those into the bot somehow. not sure bout latency but worth a shot!

I’ve actually experimented with something similar recently. While it’s technically possible, there are some hurdles to overcome. The main issue I encountered was latency - even with a solid connection, there was always a slight delay that made real-time collaboration tricky.

One workaround I found was using a combination of JACK Audio Connection Kit and VoiceMeeter. This setup allowed me to route audio from my DAW to Discord with minimal lag. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Another thing to consider is Discord’s audio compression. It’s designed for voice, not high-fidelity music. You might want to look into alternatives like Mumble or TeamSpeak, which offer better audio quality for music streaming.

It’s definitely an exciting area to explore. Keep pushing the boundaries - you might just stumble upon the next big thing in online music collaboration!
