Canceling an accidental edit access request in Google Docs

I messed up and sent an edit access request for a Google Doc by mistake. Now I’m worried because I don’t want the document owner to see my email address. Is there a way to take back this request before they notice it?

I’m really anxious about this situation. The last thing I want is for the owner to find out about my new email. It’s super important that I keep it private. Does anyone know if there’s a trick to cancel or remove the request I just sent? I’d be so grateful for any help or advice on this!

Maybe there’s a setting or option I’m missing? Or do I need to contact Google support? I’m not sure what to do, but I need to fix this ASAP. Thanks in advance for any tips!

As someone who’s dealt with Google Docs extensively, I can confirm there’s no direct way to cancel an access request once sent. However, don’t stress too much. Document owners often receive numerous requests and may not pay close attention to each one. If you’re truly concerned, you could contact the owner directly and explain the situation. They might be willing to disregard your request. In the future, consider using a separate Google account for situations where you prefer to maintain privacy. This way, you can keep your personal email address more secure when interacting with unfamiliar documents or users.

I’ve been in a similar situation before, and I understand your concern about privacy. Unfortunately, there’s no built-in feature to retract an access request once it’s sent. However, here’s what I did that might help you:

I quickly created a new Google account with a generic name and sent another request from that account. Then I emailed the document owner explaining that I accidentally sent a request from my personal email and asked them to ignore it. Most people are understanding about these things.

If you’re really worried, you could also try adjusting your Google account settings to limit what information is visible to others. Remember, the document owner can only see your email address, not any other personal details. In the future, it might be worth using a separate account for situations where you want to maintain more anonymity.

hey man, no need to panic! unfortunately once u send a request, theres no way to take it back. but dont worry too much, the owner might not even notice or care. if ur super concerned, maybe try emailing them directly to explain the mixup? good luck!
