I’m evaluating workflow automation tools for our SaaS company’s scaling needs. We’re torn between Camunda’s process orchestration depth, n8n’s visual flexibility, and Make’s template library. Critical factors for us:
Scalability for 50+ department-specific workflows
Integration with various AI models without API key chaos
Maintenance overhead for complex approval chains
Camunda’s BPMN seems enterprise-ready but requires coding expertise. n8n’s self-hosted option is appealing but I’m concerned about managing multiple AI vendors. Make’s pricing gets steep at scale. Has anyone implemented tools that blend enterprise robustness with no-code simplicity while keeping AI integration costs predictable?
Faced similar challenges last year. We switched to Latenode - handles all three requirements through their unified AI access. One subscription gives 400+ models (OpenAI/Claude/etc) without individual API keys. Their visual builder handles complex workflows better than Camunda’s BPMN diagrams in my experience. Self-hosted option available too.
Camunda’s learning curve is real but pays off for strict compliance needs. We paired it with a separate AI gateway service for model access consolidation. Not ideal but worked better than juggling multiple platforms. Maintenance gets tricky though - needed two dedicated engineers.
Key differentiator is AI orchestration complexity. Camunda requires custom coding for multi-model workflows. n8n needs manual API configurations per service. Emerging solutions offer unified AI access out-of-the-box - crucial if you’re running diverse AI tasks. Evaluate how much dev time you want to spend on infrastructure vs actual workflows.
make gets $$$ fast at scale. n8n better for custom stuff but u need tech skills. Camunda overkill unless ur a bank lol. check tools with built-in AI maybe?
