Comparing Jira and Azure DevOps: Which project management tool is better?

Hey everyone, I’m struggling with Jira and wondering if Azure DevOps might be a better option. Our team of about 20 people is having issues with Jira being super slow, losing content when we edit cards, and being tricky to set up. We’re using Scrum but moving towards Kanban.

Some folks on the team want to switch to Azure DevOps. I’m not sure if that’s the right move, though. Has anyone used both? What are the pros and cons of each? Are there any problems with Azure DevOps we should know about?

I’ve tried a few things to speed up Jira, like getting rid of unnecessary plugins and custom fields, and keeping card descriptions short. But I’m still not sure if it’s worth sticking with Jira or if we should make the switch.

Any thoughts or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

ive used both and honestly, azure devops is way better imo. jira can be a real pain with slowdowns and glitches. azure’s more streamlined for kanban and integrates nicely with other MS tools. but heads up, the learning curve can be steep at first. if ur team’s open to change, id say go for it!

I’ve been in your shoes, wrestling with both Jira and Azure DevOps. From my experience, Azure DevOps might be the way to go for your team. We switched about a year ago and haven’t looked back.

The performance boost was immediately noticeable. No more laggy interfaces or lost work. Azure DevOps handled our 30-person team without breaking a sweat. The Kanban boards are particularly slick - we found them more intuitive than Jira’s.

One unexpected benefit was the improved collaboration. The integrated wiki and seamless Git integration made our documentation and code management much smoother.

That said, be prepared for some initial grumbling. Change is always hard, and some team members might miss Jira’s familiarity. We countered this by having a ‘transition champion’ who helped everyone get up to speed.

Overall, if you’re already leaning towards the switch, I’d say go for it. The initial pain is worth the long-term gains in productivity and team satisfaction.

I’ve had experience with both tools, and while Jira has its strengths, Azure DevOps might be a better fit for your situation. The performance issues you’re facing with Jira are unfortunately common, especially for larger teams. Azure DevOps tends to be more stable and performs well even with bigger projects.

One significant advantage of Azure DevOps is its seamless integration with the Microsoft ecosystem. If your team uses other Microsoft tools, this could streamline your workflow considerably. It’s particularly strong for Kanban implementations, which aligns with your team’s direction.

However, be prepared for some initial resistance. The transition period can be challenging, and some team members might find the interface less intuitive at first. But in my experience, once you get past the initial learning curve, most teams find Azure DevOps more efficient in the long run.

Ultimately, the decision should be based on your specific needs and workflow. Consider setting up a trial of Azure DevOps alongside Jira to compare them in your actual work environment before making the switch.
