Hey everyone! Our team’s been using Jira for a while now, but we’re facing some issues. It’s super slow, we lose content when editing cards, and it’s tricky to set up. We’re thinking about switching to Azure DevOps Boards.
We’re a small team (15 devs, 5 product folks) moving from Scrum to Kanban. I’m not sure if changing tools is the right move, though.
Have any of you dealt with these Jira problems? What’s your take on Azure DevOps Boards vs Jira? Are there any downsides to Azure DevOps we should know about?
Oh, and here are some Jira tips we learned:
- Too many plugins slow it down
- Get rid of extra custom fields
- Keep cards simple, focus on delivery management
- Short descriptions work best
Thanks for your help!
ive used both and azure devops boards is way better imo. less clunky, faster, and easier to customize. we switched from jira last year and haven’t looked back. only downside is the learning curve for some team members, but its worth it. jira was a pain for us too
Having worked with both tools, I can say Azure DevOps Boards offers a more streamlined experience. Its integration with other Azure services is a significant advantage, especially if you’re already in the Microsoft ecosystem. The interface is more intuitive, and performance is generally better than Jira.
However, be prepared for some limitations in customization compared to Jira. Azure DevOps Boards might not have all the advanced features you’re used to, which could be an issue depending on your team’s specific needs.
One often overlooked aspect is the reporting capabilities. Azure DevOps has solid built-in reporting, but it might not be as extensive as what you can achieve with Jira and its ecosystem of add-ons.
Ultimately, for a team of your size transitioning to Kanban, Azure DevOps Boards could be a good fit. Just ensure it meets all your critical requirements before making the switch.
I’ve been in your shoes, Liam. We faced similar issues with Jira and made the switch to Azure DevOps Boards about a year ago. The transition was smoother than expected, and the performance boost was noticeable right away.
One thing I really appreciate about Azure DevOps is its seamless integration with other development tools. If you’re using Azure Repos or Azure Pipelines, you’ll find the workflow much more cohesive.
That said, be prepared for some initial resistance from team members who are comfortable with Jira. We found that creating a cheat sheet comparing Jira and Azure DevOps terminology helped ease the transition.
A potential downside is that Azure DevOps Boards might feel a bit constrained if you’re used to Jira’s extensive customization options. However, for a team your size moving to Kanban, it should provide everything you need without the bloat.
Overall, we’ve found Azure DevOps Boards to be more stable and user-friendly. Just make sure to invest some time in proper setup and training to get the most out of it.
