Hey everyone,
I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to link up Basecamp with JIRA. Has anyone managed to do this successfully? I’m particularly interested in:
- Connecting Basecamp threads to JIRA tickets
- Automatically updating Basecamp when changes happen in JIRA
Even a basic setup would be super helpful. I’ve been scratching my head over this for a while now. Any tips, tricks, or experiences you could share would be awesome. Maybe there’s a plugin or workaround I’m missing?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
hey MarkSeeker91, i tried using zapier too but it was a bit clunky for us. we ended up goin with Unito and it’s been pretty solid. it syncs tasks and comments between basecamp and jira pretty seamlessly. might be worth checkin out if youre still lookin for a solution!
I’ve been down this road before, and it can be a bit of a challenge. In our case, we ended up developing a custom integration using both Basecamp and JIRA APIs. It took some time and effort, but the results were worth it.
We focused on creating a two-way sync for tasks and comments. JIRA issues would appear as to-dos in Basecamp, and vice versa. Comments would sync both ways as well. This allowed our project managers to stay in Basecamp while developers could work in JIRA.
One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to decide which system is the ‘source of truth’ for certain data points. We chose JIRA for task status and assignees, while Basecamp handled due dates and priorities.
The learning curve was steep, but it significantly improved our workflow once implemented. If you have the resources, a custom solution might be the way to go for a perfect fit.
I’ve actually tackled this integration before at my previous company. We ended up using Zapier to create a bridge between Basecamp and JIRA. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the job done for our basic needs.
The setup allowed us to create JIRA tickets from specific Basecamp to-dos and update Basecamp comments when JIRA issues were modified. It took some trial and error to get the workflows right, but once set up, it significantly reduced our manual cross-posting.
One caveat: we found that complex JIRA workflows didn’t translate well to Basecamp’s simpler structure. We had to be selective about what we synced to avoid information overload.
If you’re looking for a more robust solution, you might want to check out some dedicated integration tools like Unito or Pleexy. They offer more advanced mapping options between the two platforms.
