Hi everyone,
I’m thinking about leaving Gmail and moving completely to iCloud Mail because I’m already deep into the Apple ecosystem. The idea of a more fluid experience and better privacy, compared to what Google offers, is very appealing. Has anyone taken this step? I’m eager to learn about iCloud Mail’s effectiveness in filtering spam, its reliability, and overall email management in contrast to Gmail. Your feedback and experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I have been using iCloud Mail for over a year now after switching from Gmail, and my experience has been generally positive. The integration with the Apple ecosystem is indeed seamless and contributes to an overall smooth email experience. However, I noticed that spam filtering is not as effective as what I was accustomed to with Gmail, which means some spam slips through. The interface is clean and simple though it lacks some of the more advanced organizational features of Gmail. Overall, it suits my needs well if you value ecosystem integration over highly customizable functionalities.
If you’re already heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, iCloud Mail is definitely worth considering. The integration with iPhone, iPad, and Mac is seamless, and features like Hide My Email and custom domains (with iCloud+) are nice advantages. That said, Gmail still has stronger search capabilities, spam filtering, and better third-party integrations, so the “better” choice really depends on your priorities.
One thing I’d recommend is not closing your Gmail account immediately. Keep both accounts active for a while, enable mail forwarding if needed, and gradually update your banking, shopping, and other important accounts. That makes the transition much less stressful.
Also, before moving everything over, it’s a good idea to create a local backup of your Gmail mailbox. If anything goes wrong during the migration or you later need to access older emails offline, you’ll have a copy available. I used BitRecover Gmail Backup for this purpose, but any reliable backup solution works. It’s more of a precaution than a requirement, and it gave me peace of mind during the switch.
Overall, if privacy and Apple integration are your top priorities, iCloud Mail is a solid choice. If you rely heavily on advanced search and Google’s ecosystem, keeping Gmail alongside iCloud Mail is also a perfectly practical setup.
