Hosting an Oscar prediction game? I’ve got just the thing for you!
Ever wanted to run your own Academy Awards contest but didn’t know where to start? Well, look no further! I’ve put together a nifty tool that’ll make organizing your Oscar pool a breeze.
Here’s how it works:
- Grab the ballot form (I’ll send it to you if you ask)
- Snag the score sheet (again, just ask and I’ll share)
- When people fill out the form, copy their responses to the second tab of the spreadsheet
- As the awards show happens, update the winners in the third tab
- The fourth tab will automatically track the results
I’ve set up a scoring system that gives a total of 1110 points for a perfect score. But hey, feel free to tweak it if you want! Here’s a quick peek at how the points break down:
- Best Picture: 120 points (80 for 1st choice, 40 for 2nd)
- Acting categories: 90 points each
- Screenplay and top tech awards: 60 points each
- Other major categories: 45-60 points
- Shorts and docs: 15 points each
There are 23 categories in total, ranging from the big ones like Best Director to the often-overlooked shorts.
If you’re flying solo this year, no worries! I’d be happy to have you join my friendly, no-stakes pool. Just let me know and I can set you up.
So, who’s ready to prove they’re the ultimate Oscar oracle? May the best movie buff win!
This is such a cool idea! I’ve been running Oscar pools for years, and I can tell you it really adds a whole new level of excitement to the night.
One tip I’ve learned the hard way: don’t just go with your personal favorites. Research is key. I like to check out expert predictions from film critics and industry insiders. Sites like GoldDerby can be super helpful.
Also, pay attention to precursor awards like the Golden Globes and SAG. They often give good indicators of who might win on Oscar night.
Don’t stress too much about competing against movie buffs. Half the fun is seeing how your picks stack up, even if you don’t win. And sometimes the underdogs come out on top - I once saw a casual moviegoer beat out a bunch of film school grads in our pool. It was hilarious.
Anyway, kudos to the OP for putting this together. It’s a great way to make the Oscars more interactive and fun!
As someone who’s participated in Oscar pools for years, I can attest to how much fun they are. The spreadsheet system you’ve created sounds incredibly well-thought-out and user-friendly. I particularly appreciate the weighted scoring system - it adds an extra layer of strategy to the game.
One suggestion I might offer is to consider adding a ‘dark horse’ bonus. In my experience, correctly predicting an unexpected win can be quite thrilling. Perhaps an additional 20 points for any correct prediction that goes against the odds?
Regarding your offer to join your pool - I’d be very interested. It’s always enjoyable to compete with fellow film enthusiasts, especially in a low-stakes environment. Would you mind sending me the details?
Again, excellent work on putting this together. It’s clear you’ve put a lot of thought into making this an engaging experience for all participants.
thx for sharing this! sounds like a fun way to make oscar night more exciting. how many ppl usually join ur pool? i might be interested but kinda nervous about competing against movie buffs lol. do u have any tips for picking winners?
