Hey everyone,
I’m trying to figure out how to make new files in Google’s online document tools. I know there used to be some special web addresses you could use, but they don’t seem to work anymore. Has anyone found a quick way to start a new doc or spreadsheet without going through all the menus?
I remember seeing blog posts about this a while back, but Google must have changed things since then. If you know any tricks or shortcuts, I’d really appreciate the help!
Thanks in advance for any tips you can share!
hey, i found a neat trick! if ur using chrome, go to settings > search engines > manage search engines; add new shortcut like ‘doc’ for docs.google.com/create. type ‘doc’ in the address bar, hit enter, boom - new doc. works for sheets n slides too. hope hlps!
I’ve found a workaround that’s been quite effective for me. Instead of relying on direct URLs, I’ve set up bookmarks in my browser for each Google app I frequently use. For instance, I have bookmarks for new Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. When I click these, they take me directly to a new document in the respective app. It’s not quite as quick as the old URL method, but it’s still much faster than navigating through menus. Additionally, I’ve organized my Google Drive with specific folders for different project types. This way, when I need to create a new file, I can quickly navigate to the right folder and create it there, keeping everything organized from the start. Hope this helps streamline your workflow!
I’ve been using Google’s suite for years, and I’ve found a few tricks that really speed things up. One method I swear by is using the Google Drive mobile app. It’s surprisingly quicker than the web version for creating new docs. Just tap the ‘+’ icon, choose your file type, and you’re off.
Another tip: if you’re on desktop, try pinning Google Drive to your taskbar or dock. One click, and you’re in. From there, it’s just a quick ‘New’ button away from a fresh document.
Lastly, I’ve set up some custom shortcuts in Chrome. By typing ‘doc’ or ‘sheet’ in the address bar, it autocompletes to create a new file. It took a bit of setup, but now it’s second nature. These might not be as slick as the old direct URLs, but they’ve definitely streamlined my workflow. Hope this gives you some ideas to try out!
