Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to find working solutions to remove those annoying ads while watching streams on Twitch. All the browser extensions and userscripts I used before seem to have stopped working recently. The platform must have updated their ad system or something because my usual methods like browser add-ons and custom scripts aren’t doing the trick anymore. Has anyone discovered any new techniques or tools that actually work in 2024? I’m getting really frustrated with all these interruptions during my favorite streamers’ content. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
the proxy method still works for me - just need to find good servers. I’ve been using GitHub scripts that auto-rotate endpoints, way easier than switching manually. Quality dips sometimes but it’s better than sitting through 30-sec ads every 10 mins.
Browser extensions are pretty much dead, but userscripts through Tampermonkey still work if you know where to look. I’ve been testing ones that hit the video player directly instead of blocking requests. They work maybe 60-70% of the time - not perfect but better than nothing. What’s also worked for me: nuke your browser data and go incognito. Twitch seems to go easier on fresh sessions. Only lasts 2-3 hours before ads come back full force, but it’s solid for streams you really don’t want interrupted.
I’ve had luck switching VPN locations - some regions just get way fewer ads. Not perfect, but it helps. Alternative frontends like Twitchls work great too since they strip ads completely. You’ll lose chat and some features, but streams run much smoother. Twitch Turbo kills all ads platform-wide if you watch a lot. Monthly fee’s worth it if you’re on there constantly and hate interruptions.
Twitch’s updated ad system has indeed rendered many common ad blockers ineffective. I’ve found success using Streamlink paired with VLC to access a direct video stream, bypassing the browser entirely. While this requires some initial configuration, it has proven reliable over the past few months. If you’re looking for mobile solutions, modified APKs could work, but one must be cautious about the sources to avoid security risks. Although the overall experience on mobile differs from desktop, it significantly reduces ad interruptions.
