Customizing Gmail's delayed sending options

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Gmail’s Schedule send feature, but I’m not totally happy with the default options. They’re pretty limited:

Next day at 8 AM
Next day at 1 PM
Following Monday at 8 AM

What I really want are more flexible choices like:

Send in 5 minutes
Send in 15 minutes
Send in 30 minutes
Send in 2 hours

This would be super helpful when I forget to add something important or need a quick delay.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to set up custom delay times in Gmail? Maybe through settings or an add-on? I’m thinking about making a browser extension, but I wanted to check here first.

Any tips or tricks would be awesome. Thanks!

hey Nova56, i feel ya on wanting more options. sadly, gmail doesn’t have built-in custom delays :frowning: but there’s a cool chrome extension called ‘Right Inbox’ that lets u schedule emails with custom times. it’s pretty neat, might be worth checkin out if ur not up for coding ur own extension. hope that helps!

I’ve been in a similar boat, Nova56. While Gmail’s native options are limited, I found a workaround that might interest you. I use Boomerang for Gmail, which offers more granular scheduling options. It lets you set custom delay times, including minutes and hours.

One trick I’ve found particularly useful is setting up keyboard shortcuts for common delay times. This way, I can quickly schedule an email to go out in 15 minutes or 2 hours with just a few keystrokes. It’s been a game-changer for my workflow.

Another option, if you’re comfortable with scripting, is to use Google Apps Script to create custom functions for delayed sending. It takes some setup, but it gives you ultimate flexibility in scheduling options.

Hope this gives you some ideas to explore!

I’ve encountered this limitation too, and while Gmail doesn’t offer native customization for scheduled sends, there’s a workaround I’ve found effective. You can use Google’s Workspace Add-ons feature to integrate third-party scheduling tools directly into Gmail. One that I’ve had success with is Gmelius. It offers more granular scheduling options, including custom delay times in minutes or hours.

Another approach, if you’re technically inclined, is to use Google Apps Script to create a custom sidebar in Gmail with your preferred delay options. This requires some coding knowledge but gives you complete control over the scheduling process.

Lastly, if you decide to create a browser extension, consider open-sourcing it. Many users would likely appreciate a solution to this common frustration with Gmail’s scheduling feature.
