Hey everyone! I’m working on a project to help charities raise funds. I’ve created a widget that embeds YouTube videos but I’m running into a problem. Some of the non-profits I’m helping aren’t tech-savvy enough to turn off the ads that pop up on their videos.
I’m wondering if there’s a way to embed these YouTube videos without any ads showing up. Is there some kind of parameter or setting I can use when embedding the video to tell YouTube not to display ads?
It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction. I want to make sure the focus stays on the charity’s message without any distracting advertisements. Thanks for any help you can offer!
I’ve actually tackled this issue before when working on a similar project. Unfortunately, there’s no foolproof way to completely disable ads on embedded YouTube videos unless you’re the owner of the channel. YouTube’s terms of service don’t allow third parties to remove ads.
However, there are a few workarounds you might consider:
Encourage the charities to upgrade to YouTube Premium accounts. This removes ads, but it does come with a cost.
Use YouTube’s official iframe API. While it doesn’t remove ads entirely, it gives you more control over the player and can minimize some types of ads.
Consider alternative video hosting platforms like Vimeo, which offer ad-free options for a fee.
If possible, have the charities upload their videos as ‘unlisted’ on YouTube. Sometimes this results in fewer ads, though it’s not guaranteed.
Remember, completely removing ads might violate YouTube’s terms. Always ensure you’re complying with their policies to avoid any issues down the line.
