Educational accounts can't use Figma Sites feature

I’m a student trying to use Figma Sites but it seems like this feature isn’t included in educational accounts. The monthly cost of $15-20 just to get website publishing feels too expensive for students who are already on tight budgets.

It’s frustrating because we already get access to most other Figma features through our school accounts, but Sites is missing. I think Figma should either include this in student plans or maybe offer a cheaper student-only addon just for the website feature.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Do you think there might be a workaround or should we push for better student pricing?

I encountered this exact limitation during my final year project when I needed to present my portfolio work online. After hitting the same wall with educational accounts, I ended up using Figma’s prototype sharing combined with a simple landing page on GitHub Pages to showcase my designs.

The workaround isn’t perfect but it gets the job done for academic purposes. You can create detailed prototypes in Figma and embed the shareable links into a basic HTML page hosted for free. While you lose some of the polished publishing features that Sites offers, it still demonstrates your design process effectively to professors and potential employers.

Regarding advocacy for better student pricing, I’d suggest reaching out through your institution’s design department. Universities often have direct channels with software vendors, and collective feedback from academic programs tends to carry more weight than individual requests. Some schools have successfully negotiated expanded educational licenses for specialized tools when there’s demonstrated pedagogical need.
