Figma's missing feature: CMYK PDF export for print

The recent Figma updates are awesome, but there’s a big gap in functionality. We can create amazing marketing materials with Figma Draw and Figma Buzz, but we can’t easily send them to print.

What we really need is a way to export CMYK PDFs with bleed and cutlines. This would be a game-changer for teams working on print projects. Right now, we have to use other software like InDesign or Illustrator to prepare files for printing companies.

It would be great if Figma could add this feature. Then we could do everything in one place, from design to print-ready files. This would save time and make our workflow much smoother.

Has anyone else noticed this gap? What do you think about a potential ‘Figma Print’ feature?

totally agree! figma’s missing the boat on this one. i’ve been using sketch for print stuff, but it’s not ideal. wish figma would step up their game and add cmyk export. maybe we should start a petition or somethin to get their attention? anyone else down for that?

You’re spot on about this missing feature, Liam. I’ve been in the same boat, struggling with the lack of CMYK export in Figma. In my experience working with a small design agency, we’ve had to develop workarounds that are far from ideal.

We’ve been using a plugin called ‘CMYK Color Picker’ to at least design with CMYK colors in mind. Then we export to PDF and use Adobe Acrobat to convert to CMYK. It’s a hassle, especially when clients need last-minute changes.

I’ve actually reached out to Figma support about this. They acknowledged the need but didn’t give a timeline. From what I gather, it’s on their radar, but not a top priority.

In the meantime, we’ve started using Affinity Publisher for final print prep. It’s more affordable than Adobe and handles the CMYK conversion well. Not ideal, but it’s keeping us afloat until Figma steps up their print game.

As someone who’s worked extensively in both digital and print design, I can attest to the frustration of Figma’s lack of CMYK export. It’s a significant hurdle for those of us straddling both worlds.

In my agency, we’ve resorted to using Figma for initial designs and client approvals, then recreating the entire layout in InDesign for print production. It’s time-consuming and prone to errors.

One workaround we’ve found somewhat helpful is using the ‘CMYK Preview’ plugin. While it doesn’t solve the export issue, it at least gives us a more accurate representation of how our colors will look in print.

I’ve heard rumors that Figma is considering integrating with some third-party print services, which could potentially address this issue. Until then, we’re stuck with our current inefficient workflow.

It’s a shame because Figma’s collaborative features are unparalleled. Adding CMYK export would truly make it an all-in-one solution for design teams.
