Firefox users express concerns over new AI features leading to excessive CPU usage and battery depletion

I’ve come across conversations about the recent AI features in Firefox that have left many users frustrated. Reports are flooding in about these additions significantly increasing CPU usage and causing batteries to drain more quickly.

It appears that Mozilla’s integration of AI technology hasn’t been optimized well. Personally, I’ve noticed a slowdown in my browser performance, which makes me wonder if it’s tied to these changes.

Has anyone experienced strange behavior in Firefox after the latest updates? Issues like the browser demanding more system resources, louder fans, or quicker battery drain while browsing are concerns I keep hearing about.

I’m contemplating whether to disable these AI capabilities or perhaps even switch to another browser until they address these performance issues. What’s your perspective on the recent AI developments in Firefox?

Had this same problem for weeks on my work machine. Firefox’s process manager shows you exactly which processes are eating your CPU - that’s where I’d start.

The AI sidebar and translation features killed my performance. Disabled the sidebar completely and went back to the Google Translate extension. CPU usage went from 40% idle down to 8%.

Here’s what really helped - Firefox now caches tons of AI model data locally. Clear that cache and you’ll see a big difference. Go to about:support and wipe “Cached Web Content” and “Offline Web Content”.

Windows users: check if Firefox is running background tasks when it’s closed. The AI stuff pre-loads and keeps running. Found three new scheduled tasks in Task Scheduler after the update that I didn’t need.

Worth spending 30 minutes tweaking these settings instead of switching browsers. Mozilla usually fixes performance issues within a month of major updates anyway.

Had the same problems after the update but fixed most of them through Firefox settings. The AI stuff is pretty resource-heavy, but you can disable chunks of it without breaking anything important. Go to about:config and search for AI preferences - turn off what you don’t need. Also check your extensions since older add-ons clash with the new features and make performance worse. Before jumping to another browser, try a fresh profile to see if that fixes it. Mozilla usually sorts out these optimization problems within a few weeks of big updates, so a quick workaround beats moving all your data and bookmarks elsewhere.

totally feel u. my comp is heating up way too much too, like what were they thinkin? i mean, it shouldn’t be this bad just browsing. i’m also thinkin of goin back to an older version untill they fix this mess.

Performance really depends on your hardware and how you use it. I’ve got Firefox running on both a newer laptop and older desktop - huge difference between them. The AI stuff hits hard if you’re low on RAM or have an older processor. I’d check task manager while browsing to see what’s eating up resources. Battery drain gets worse on sites that trigger the AI features more often. Mozilla’s talked about this in their recent blog posts and says fixes are coming next release. If you want to stick with Firefox for now, try the ESR version - it doesn’t have the experimental stuff yet.
