Gmail receiving emails from Mailgun with significant delays

I’ve been experiencing really frustrating delays when sending emails through Mailgun to Gmail accounts for about 4 months now. The delivery times are all over the place - sometimes messages arrive in 15 minutes but often it takes up to an hour or more.

What’s weird is that Mailgun’s dashboard shows the email as delivered almost immediately after I send it. But then I have to wait ages before it actually appears in my Gmail inbox.

This is causing major problems because we use these emails for user registration confirmations and password reset requests. Users are getting impatient when they don’t receive their emails quickly.

I’ve tried searching for solutions but haven’t found much helpful information about this specific problem. Has anyone else dealt with similar delivery delays between Mailgun and Gmail? What steps did you take to resolve it?

I encountered a similar issue recently, attributed to the domain’s reputation with Gmail. Although Mailgun confirmed the emails were sent successfully, Gmail took longer to deliver them due to its suspicions about our domain. To resolve this, we implemented proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records while also managing our email sending volume carefully. Eventually, we saw significant improvements in delivery times after switching to a dedicated IP. It might be useful to check your domain’s Sender Score to get insights into your reputation.

Been dealing with this exact problem for months. Fixed it by tweaking send frequency and diving into Gmail’s Postmaster Tools. Our authentication was fine, but we were hitting Gmail’s rate limits - something that didn’t show up in Mailgun’s reports. Started spacing sends out more and found Gmail queues messages during peak hours. Certain subject lines and content also triggered extra scrutiny. Delays dropped big time after I cleaned up our templates and ditched phrases Gmail flags. Check if your delays happen at specific times - that’s a dead giveaway.

gmail’s cracking down hard on bulk senders right now. check if you’re on a shared IP with Mailgun - that’s likely what’s slowing things down. don’t send in sudden bursts either, gmail hates when volume spikes randomly. if your domain’s newer, you’ll need to warm it up gradually.
