I’m having trouble with conversion tracking on my Squarespace website. My online store is making sales but Google Analytics isn’t recording them correctly. When it does show transactions, they appear as zero dollars which makes no sense. I also tried running some Google Ads but couldn’t track the conversions properly from those campaigns either. Both Squarespace help desk and Google support haven’t been able to fix this problem. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of tracking issue? I’m willing to pay someone who knows how to set this up correctly. There must be other businesses using this combination successfully.
Sounds like your transaction data layer isn’t firing right during checkout. I had the same thing happen when Squarespace updated their commerce system - totally broke my tracking setup. Usually it’s because the purchase event doesn’t get sent to Analytics at the right time in the checkout flow. What fixed it for me was adding custom code to the checkout confirmation page header to manually push the transaction data. You’ll probably want to throw Google Tag Manager in there too since Squarespace’s native integration sucks for ecommerce tracking. Also check if your payment processor finishes transactions on an external page that’s not being tracked. I’d skip both companies’ support teams and just hire a dev who knows both platforms - their support usually doesn’t get the technical stuff anyway.
The zero dollar transaction issue usually occurs when Enhanced Ecommerce isn’t set up correctly between Squarespace and GA4. I experienced the same problem migrating from Universal Analytics. To resolve it, go into Squarespace’s Analytics settings and completely reconnect the Google Analytics integration. Ensure you disconnect and reconnect with fresh authorization. Also, confirm that your GA4 property has the correct measurement ID format, which should start with G- instead of the old UA- format. For Google Ads conversion tracking, set up conversion actions in Google Ads separately and ensure the Google Ads tag properly fires on your thank you page. Occasionally, Squarespace-Google integration may not transmit revenue data accurately due to currency formatting conflicts or checkout processes that bypass specific tracking triggers.
i feel ya! i had the same problem before. make sure ur google analytics is properly linked to ur squarespace. sometimes small settings can mess things up. and double check that ecommerce tracking is on in GA, it’s confusing!
