Google Docs editing issues on reMarkable - any solutions?

Hello everyone,

I’m using a reMarkable Pro tablet that my work provided. I got it mainly because I write a lot and have sensory issues that make regular devices cause headaches.

But I’m running into a major problem. I have several long documents stored in Google Docs that I need to work on. When I try to access them on the reMarkable, I can’t make any changes. Basic functions like copying text or pasting content don’t work at all.

This is really frustrating because most of my writing projects are already in Google Docs. Am I supposed to start everything from scratch directly on the reMarkable device? If that’s the only way to make it work, then this tablet might not be the right fit for my workflow.

Has anyone found a way around this limitation? I’d really appreciate any tips or alternative approaches that might help me edit my existing Google Docs files.

the reMarkable browser is pretty bad for google docs, i feel ya! what i do is sync via the reMarkable app between my phone and laptop. it’s def easier than editing in that browser. maybe try using offline mode on another device and sync it later?

I can relate to your struggles with Google Docs on the reMarkable. Unfortunately, the native browser isn’t ideal for editing. One effective method I’ve found is to export your documents as PDFs before transferring them to the device. This way, you can annotate and add notes directly on the reMarkable. For substantial edits, I recommend drafting your ideas on the tablet using its writing app, and then making the final changes on your computer. This workaround, while not entirely seamless, helps maintain your productivity without losing access to your documents.

Had the same problem when I got my reMarkable for work. The web browser is pretty terrible with Google Docs - collaborative editing barely works at all. Here’s what I ended up doing: I use reMarkable Connect to sync stuff back and forth. I’ll draft new sections or make revisions directly on the tablet, then use the handwriting recognition to convert my notes to text. Copy that text and paste it into Google Docs on my computer. Yeah, it’s an extra step, but I get to keep my existing docs while still getting that great writing feel. Don’t try to make the tablet do everything - just use it for drafting and handle the rest on your computer.
