Google Drive app not displaying directories on Mac Finder

Help! Google Drive folders aren’t showing up in Mac Finder

I recently set up the Google Drive app on my MacBook to sync with Finder. It seemed to work at first. I can see the Google Drive icon in Finder and access my files. But there’s a big problem.

For some reason, none of my folders are visible. It’s just a bunch of loose files. I know the folders exist because I checked online. All my stuff that’s organized into directories is MIA in Finder.

Is this a common issue? Has anyone else run into this weird folder invisibility thing with the Google Drive Mac app? I’m totally stumped and would love some advice on how to get my folders to show up properly.

Any tips or tricks would be super helpful. Thanks!

hey mia, had the same issue last week. try this: quit the drive app, delete the app data folder (~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS), then relaunch. worked for me after resyncing. good luck!

I’ve experienced this frustration before with Google Drive on my Mac. When the folders refused to show up in Finder, I ended up clearing the cache and forcing a full resync. I closed the app completely and used Finder’s Go command (Cmd+Shift+G) to navigate to the Library Caches directory. There, I located and deleted the folder named com.google.drivefs before restarting the application. It took some time and patience, but eventually, all of my directories reappeared. If this solution doesn’t work, a complete uninstall and reinstall might be necessary to restore the folders.

Have you checked your Google Drive settings? Sometimes folder visibility issues can stem from sync preferences. Open the Drive app, click the gear icon, and go to Preferences. Ensure ‘Show file sync status icons’ is enabled. Also, verify that you haven’t accidentally set certain folders to ‘Available offline’ only. If these don’t help, try signing out of your Google account in the app, then signing back in. This often triggers a fresh sync that can resolve display problems. As a last resort, you might need to uninstall and reinstall the app, but start with these less drastic measures first.
