Help needed with Google Drive folders on Mac
I recently set up the Google Drive app on my MacBook to sync with Finder. While I can access the drive and see my files, I’m having a weird issue. All the folders are missing!
When I open Google Drive in Finder, I only see individual files. But I know for sure I have folders because they show up when I check Google Drive in my web browser.
Has anyone else run into this problem? It’s really frustrating not being able to see my folder structure. I’m wondering if it’s a bug in the app or if I messed up a setting somewhere.
Any tips on how to get the folders to show up would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
I encountered this issue recently and found a workaround that might help. Check if your Google Drive app is set to ‘Stream files’ instead of ‘Mirror files’. This can cause folders to not display properly in Finder.
To fix it, open the Google Drive app, click the settings gear icon, then select ‘Preferences’. Look for the ‘Sync method’ option and switch it to ‘Mirror files’. After changing this setting, give it some time to sync and your folders should start appearing in Finder.
If that doesn’t work, try resetting the app by holding down Shift+Command while clicking the Google Drive icon in your menu bar. Select ‘Quit and reset’ from the menu. This will force a full resync which often resolves display issues.
Remember to backup important files before making changes, just in case.
hey mate, had the same prob. try this: go to drive settings, click ‘disconnect account’ then reconnect. worked for me! also, check ur internet - slow connection can mess with folder sync. if nothin else works, maybe hit up google support? good luck!
I experienced a similar issue with Google Drive on my Mac a few months ago. It turned out to be related to my sync settings. Here’s what worked for me:
First, I opened the Google Drive app preferences and checked the ‘Sync everything in My Drive’ option. Then I signed out of the app completely and restarted my Mac. After signing back in, I waited about 30 minutes for everything to resync.
Lo and behold, my folders finally appeared in Finder! Apparently, there was some glitch with selective sync that was preventing folders from showing up properly.
If that doesn’t do the trick, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Drive app. Sometimes a fresh install can resolve weird syncing issues.
Hope this helps you get your folders back. Let us know if you find another solution!
