I keep getting messages from strange automated accounts on Telegram that seem to target random users. These accounts typically use women’s names with attractive profile photos and start conversations with questions like “Are you David the photographer?” or similar.
Usually I can tell they’re bots because they give weird responses when I change topics or reply in other languages. But yesterday I got a really bizarre interaction. One asked if I was “the delivery guy” and when I said yes, it started sending offensive messages about family members and random emojis before apparently blocking my account.
I keep blocking and reporting these accounts but new ones show up every few weeks. Has anyone else experienced this type of harassment from automated messaging? What’s the point of these bots and is there a better way to stop them from contacting me?
Ugh, Telegram bots are the worst! I’ve noticed they hit in waves - you’ll get 3-4 similar accounts within days, then nothing for weeks. The offensive messages are probably bait to get you engaging so they can flag you as an active user. Try changing your username every so often - seems to mess with their targeting algorithms.
Had the same bot problem about six months ago. They’re testing for active accounts as part of bigger scam operations. The nasty messages you got after saying you were “the delivery guy” shows these bots have different scripts based on your responses - they’re either fishing for info or trying to get emotional reactions for data collection. I fixed it by turning on Telegram’s “restrict new chats” setting, which makes unknown contacts ask permission before messaging you. Cut down these interactions big time. These bots go after accounts that seem active and responsive, so don’t reply to the initial messages at all. Makes your account look dead to their systems.
You’re dealing with bots, and yeah, they’re pretty unsettling. These accounts use specific phrases to trick you into thinking they’re real people. They build fake trust to keep you talking. The weird responses you got after acknowledging them? That’s just their programming trying to get a reaction out of you. Here’s what I’d do: tighten your Telegram privacy settings so fewer people can contact or find you. Also, don’t give them real answers to their questions. Send back nonsense instead - it usually makes them move on to easier targets.
