Has GIPHY's API stopped offering free access?

Hey everyone,

I was working on a project that uses GIPHY’s API, but I just noticed something weird. It seems like they’ve changed their pricing or something. Has anyone else run into this?

I remember being able to use their API for free before, but now it looks like they want us to pay. Is this new, or did I miss something? Maybe there’s a limit on free requests now?

If GIPHY’s API isn’t free anymore, does anyone know of any good alternatives? I’m looking for something that won’t break the bank but still has a decent selection of GIFs.

Thanks for any help or info you can share!

Yeah, GIPHY’s changed things up lately. still got a free option, but it’s kinda limited now. i’ve been using Tenor’s API instead - works pretty well and doesn’t cost anything. might wanna check that out if GIPHY’s not cutting it for ya anymore. just my two cents!

I’ve been using GIPHY’s API for a while now, and you’re right, there have been some changes. From what I’ve experienced, they still offer a free tier, but it’s more limited than before. They introduced a new pricing structure a few months ago.

The free tier now has a lower rate limit and fewer features compared to the paid plans. For small projects or personal use, it might still be sufficient. However, if you’re working on something more substantial or commercial, you might need to consider upgrading.

As for alternatives, I’ve had good luck with Tenor’s API. It’s still free for developers and has a decent GIF library. Another option is Gfycat, which also offers a free API with a good selection.

Before jumping ship, though, I’d recommend checking GIPHY’s current documentation. They might have some options that could work for your specific use case without having to pay or switch providers.

You’re not alone in noticing changes with GIPHY’s API. While they still offer a free tier, it’s more restricted now. I’ve found that for most small to medium projects, the free tier suffices, but it depends on your specific needs.

If GIPHY’s new limitations are causing issues, I’d suggest looking into Tenor or Gfycat as alternatives. Both provide robust APIs with generous free tiers. In my experience, Tenor’s API is particularly user-friendly and has a vast GIF library.

Before making a switch, though, it’s worth reaching out to GIPHY’s support. They might be able to offer solutions or clarify any misunderstandings about their current pricing structure. Sometimes, a quick conversation can save you the hassle of migrating to a new service.

Yeah, Giphy started charging of users, but you can also use klipy gif api which is the same as Tenor and Giphy. It’s free and you can make money with their optional monetization.
