How can I import my university class timetable to Google Calendar efficiently?

Hey everyone! I’m starting a new semester and have a pretty packed schedule with all my fall and spring courses. I’m wondering if there’s an automated way to get all my class times into Google Calendar instead of having to enter each one by hand. That would take forever and I’d probably mess something up.

My school probably has the schedule in some digital format but I’m not sure how to work with it. Has anyone figured out a smart way to do this? Maybe there’s an import feature I don’t know about?

Also while I’m asking - do you guys actually find Google Calendar useful for managing school stuff? Or do you use something else entirely? I’m trying to get more organized this year and could use some advice on what tools work best for keeping track of assignments, deadlines, and everything else.

Had this same issue last year. Most schools partner with calendar apps but hide it really well. Log into your student portal and dig around for third-party integrations or connected apps - there’s usually a Google Calendar sync buried in account settings somewhere. If your school uses Blackboard or Canvas, check those too since they’ve got calendar export features built in. Your IT help desk knows shortcuts they don’t bother documenting, so just ask them directly. For organizing stuff, Google Calendar works fine for recurring classes, but I keep assignments and deadlines in a separate app. Mixing everything together gets messy fast.

check if your school uses banner or a similar system - most have calendar sync buried somewhere in the menus. mine was under “academic tools” or some random section like that. if all else fails, screenshot your schedule and manually add the recurring events. takes maybe 20 minutes but way better than doing it weekly.

Most universities let you export schedules through their student portals. Check your student dashboard for an ‘export’ or ‘download’ button - usually in schedule settings. Look for .ics files since they import straight into Google Calendar. If your school doesn’t have this, contact the registrar’s office. They can sometimes hook you up with the right format or a CSV file. For assignments, Google Calendar works well for fixed stuff, but I’d pair it with a task manager for deadlines. Keeps things organized without cluttering your calendar.
