How can I insert subscript or superscript formatting within a Notion block?

I’m transitioning to Notion for my note-taking needs after leaving OneNote due to its enhanced flexibility. However, I’m facing a challenge: Notion does not readily support subscript or superscript formatting within its text blocks. Has anyone discovered a way to implement either formatting style seamlessly? I’m looking for any workarounds or tips that could enable me to display characters lower or higher than the typical line, ensuring my notes match my formatting requirements.

i ended up using workarounds like embedding a small image of my formatted text since notion doesnt support direct subs or sups atm. works, but isnt ideal. hoping for better native support soon.

Based on my experience, using LaTeX within Notion’s equation blocks offers a reasonable workaround for superscript and subscript formatting. Although it primarily supports mathematical expressions rather than general text, this method has allowed me to incorporate correctly formatted symbols within my notes. I typically write expressions in the equation block and then copy the visuals to other parts of my documents, if necessary. While it hasn’t provided a perfect solution for every scenario, it has helped maintain consistency in formatted mathematical content.

After switching to Notion, I encountered this hurdle as well. One approach that worked for me involved copying Unicode subscript and superscript characters from online reference sites and pasting them directly into my notes. This isn’t a perfect solution as it limits the range of characters available and can affect uniformity when mixing fonts, but it does enable a degree of customization that was otherwise missing. Although it’s a bit tedious for extensive use, it has proven to be a reliable stopgap measure for my specific needs.

hey, i also tried using custom bookmarklets that insert latex snippets on the fly. not a perfect solution, but it does the trick when you need a quick sub or sup effect. might be worth a try if you’re into tinkering a bit with your setup.
