How can I keep Jira constantly visible for better project management habits?

Hey everyone,

I’m in a leadership role without a tech background, trying to improve my Jira usage. I want to set a good example by using the tool more and relying less on email. But I’m struggling to keep Jira in view all the time.

My current setup:

  • Two monitors, always full of other work stuff
  • Need Jira separate and visible to use it more

I’m thinking about:

  • Getting a third screen
  • Using a tablet
  • Buying a cheap laptop just for Jira

The goal is to make Jira a habit and keep team communication in one place. Has anyone found a good way to make Jira part of their daily routine? What worked for you?

Thanks for any tips!

hey miadragon, have u tried using jira mobile app? it’s pretty handy for quick updates n checks. i keep it on my phone n it helps me stay on top of things without needing extra screens. plus, u can set notifications to keep u in the loop. might be worth a shot before investing in new hardware!

I’ve found that integrating Jira with my calendar has been a game-changer. By scheduling specific time blocks for Jira tasks and updates, it’s become an integral part of my daily routine. This approach doesn’t require additional hardware and helps create a habit.

Another effective method is using browser extensions that allow you to pin Jira tabs. This keeps Jira readily accessible without dedicating an entire screen to it. You can quickly switch to it when needed.

Lastly, consider customizing your Jira dashboard to show the most relevant information at a glance. This makes it more appealing to check regularly and increases its usefulness in your role. Remember, consistent use is key to making it a habit.

I’ve been in your shoes, and I found that dedicating a small portion of one of my existing monitors to Jira worked wonders. I use the ‘Always on Top’ feature in Windows (or similar on Mac) to keep a small Jira window visible in the corner of my screen. This way, it’s always there, reminding me to check and update without being too intrusive.

Another trick that helped me was setting up custom keyboard shortcuts to quickly switch to Jira. This made it much easier to incorporate into my workflow without disrupting other tasks.

Remember, the key is consistency. Start small - maybe commit to checking Jira for 10 minutes at the start and end of each day. As it becomes habit, you’ll naturally use it more. Good luck with your Jira journey!
