How Can I Save a Custom Order in Notion?

I want to preserve a manually arranged sequence in my Notion recipe book without extra fields. Is there a way to store different preset orders for various views?

Notion does not support saving multiple preset orderings for a single view directly. In my experience, I tried manually reordering items in one view and then switching to another view with the same database, only to find that the order resets once a sort is applied. The only workaround I found was adding a temporary order field, but that’s exactly what I wanted to avoid. Unfortunately, without extra fields, you can’t lock the manual arrangement across different views. It might be worth keeping an eye on future updates or exploring third-party integrations.

I have been exploring similar functionality for a personal project and encountered the same constraints. In my testing, I found that Notion does not allow storing different manual orders for various views unless you implement an extra field to track the custom order. I experimented with toggling between board and list views, hoping to circumvent the issue, but eventually realized that the database resets the order when switching views without explicit sort criteria. This has led me to consider adapting my workflow to accommodate an added ordering property, despite my initial preference for a field-free setup.

i’ve tinkered around and no luck either. not native support for saving a custom view order so far, and you end up needing some extra field work. kinda sucks but maybe future releases help.

My experimentation with Notion led me to a similar conclusion regarding custom ordering. I tried using multiple views to keep a manual sequence without extra fields, but every time I switched views the order was reset once a sort rule kicked in. In my case, I ended up creating a secondary view where I could preserve the manual order by adding a hidden field. Although it’s not ideal, it seems like the platform currently does not offer a built-in method to maintain custom orders across different preset views.
