Recently, I bought some items from two different vendors that are using Shopify. To access my tracking information, I had to create an account and install the Shop app on my phone.
Since completing this, I’ve been inundated with numerous marketing emails and push notifications from the app. This constant stream of advertisements is quite bothersome, and I’m keen on stopping them.
I initially wanted to use the app solely for tracking my orders, but now I find myself overwhelmed with unwanted promotions. Has anyone faced a similar situation? What steps can I take to disable these marketing messages while still being able to monitor my shipments when necessary?
Had this same problem! Just turning off notifications in the app settings didn’t work for me either. Here’s what fixed it: Open Shop app → Account tab → Privacy and Marketing → Marketing Communications. Turn that off but leave order tracking on. Here’s the key part everyone misses - scroll down to ‘Partner Marketing’ and disable that too. That’s what controls whether individual stores can spam you through Shop, and it was causing most of my junk emails. Did both settings and the promotional stuff stopped in about 48 hours. Still get my shipping updates though.
totally understand ur frustration! just head to the shop app settings, and check the notifications section. u can disable those marketing emails there. also, there’s an unsubscribe link in their emails if u wanna go that route. hope this helps!
Ugh yeah, Shop’s annoying with this stuff. Even after I changed the app settings, I kept getting emails from the actual stores. Check your original order confirmations - some vendors auto-add u to their mailing lists during checkout. I had to manually unsubscribe from 3 store newsletters that weren’t even connected to the Shop app.
Had this same problem a few months ago. Turning off notifications in the app didn’t work at all. Here’s what actually fixed it: I unsubscribed from each marketing email as they showed up. Most Shop emails have an unsubscribe link at the bottom that removes you from their main database, not just app preferences. Also go to your phone’s notification settings and turn off banners for the Shop app. Email unsubscribes + blocking system notifications killed about 95% of the spam while keeping order tracking. Takes more work upfront but way better than just using in-app settings.
Same thing happened to me after I set up Shop. You need to use the web version, not just the app. Log into your Shop account on a browser, go to profile settings, and find communication preferences or email settings. There are separate toggles for order updates vs marketing stuff. Turn off the promotional emails but keep the shipping notifications. Also check if individual stores added you to their lists - you might have to unsubscribe from those separately. Shop’s pretty aggressive with marketing emails by default, but changing these settings should fix it in a few days.
Had the opposite problem at first - disabled everything in Shop’s settings but still got hammered with notifications because I totally forgot about email preferences. Here’s what finally worked: went to my phone’s main Settings, found Shop under notifications, and killed all alerts there first. Then I set up a filter in my email app to auto-delete anything from Shop’s domain with marketing keywords. Blocking it at both system and email level = total silence from their promotional spam. Order tracking emails still come through fine since they use different identifiers that skip my filters.
