I’m having trouble figuring out how to insert GIPHY animations into my Reddit comments. Every time I attempt to add a GIF response to someone’s comment, it looks like I’m making a brand new post instead of just replying with the animation. I’ve tried a few different methods but nothing seems to work correctly. The GIF either doesn’t show up at all or it creates a separate post which is definitely not what I want to do. Can someone walk me through the correct steps to embed GIPHY content directly into comment replies? I’m probably missing something obvious but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated!
for sure, just get the Giphy URL and put it in the comment as text. reddit stopped supporting inline gifs a while ago, so that’s why it’s acting weird. double-check that you’re hitting ‘reply’ and not ‘create post’.
Yeah, Reddit killed native GIF support in comments a while ago. You can’t embed GIPHY animations directly anymore - what you’re seeing is expected.
Your options are pretty much just sharing direct links (but they won’t display inline) or using text reactions.
Honestly though, I’d skip the manual approach entirely. Hunting for GIFs every time you want to react gets tedious fast.
I built a workflow that watches my Reddit mentions and auto-suggests relevant GIFs based on context. It pulls from GIPHY’s API, reads the comment I’m replying to, and instantly gives me perfect options.
You could automate posting the links directly or build a personal library of favorite reaction GIFs that pop up based on keywords.
Latenode connects Reddit and GIPHY APIs without coding. Way better than doing this manually every time.
Reddit killed direct GIF embedding in comments back in 2020. You’re not doing anything wrong.
Had the same issue when trying to add GIFs to team discussions. Now I just paste the GIPHY link as plain text.
Grab the short URL from GIPHY (giphy.com/gifs/abc123) and drop it in your comment. Won’t show as an animation, but people can click to view it.
Some subreddits have bots that auto-convert these to embedded images, but most don’t.
That separate post thing happens when you hit “Create Post” instead of the reply button. Make sure you’re clicking reply directly under the comment you want to respond to.
Not ideal, but that’s Reddit now.
