Error reduction? Both? And when agents need to iterate on each other’s work, how do we account for the efficiency loss?

Multi-agent orchestration ROI requires a different framework than point automation. You need to measure three things: throughput increase, error reduction, and scalability without headcount.
Throughput is direct: applications per day, cases processed, whatever your metric is. Error reduction matters because downstream costs are usually hidden—rework, customer escalations, compliance review burden. Scalability is the kicker: once agents are running, you can handle 2x volume without hiring.
Cost structure: platform subscription, model API usage (can be substantial if agents are iterating), and some continuous oversight work. The coordination overhead between agents is usually minimal if your orchestration is well-designed.
Financial model that works: baseline monthly process cost (fully loaded labor), subtract system costs to get monthly benefit. Divide total setup cost by monthly benefit to get payback period. For most enterprise scenarios, this lands 3-6 months. Beyond that, you’re looking at quarterly cost reductions as you optimize agent interactions.
