How I built an n8n workflow to process YouTube content and create Obsidian notes automatically

Hey everyone! I’m super excited to share a cool automation I just set up using n8n. It’s pretty neat!

Here’s what it does:

  1. Takes a YouTube video link from ChatGPT
  2. Grabs the video transcript and metadata
  3. Formats everything nicely
  4. Sends the formatted info back to ChatGPT
  5. Creates an Obsidian note in my vault with proper frontmatter and links

I’m really happy with how it turned out. It saves me so much time when I’m researching topics or want to keep track of interesting videos.

Has anyone else tried something similar? I’d love to hear about your n8n or Obsidian automations. Also, if you have any questions about my setup, feel free to ask!

Impressive workflow you’ve created there! I’ve been dabbling with n8n for a while, but haven’t tackled anything quite that sophisticated yet. Your setup sounds like it could be a game-changer for content creators and researchers alike. I’m particularly intrigued by how you’ve integrated ChatGPT into the process - that’s a clever touch. Have you encountered any rate limiting issues with the YouTube API? In my experience, that can sometimes be a stumbling block for heavier automation tasks. Also, I’m curious about how you’re handling video categorization in Obsidian. Are you using any specific plugins or custom tagging system to keep things organized? Might be worth looking into if you haven’t already. Keep up the great work!

Wow, that’s a sweet setup! i’ve been messing around with n8n too, but nothing this fancy. how’re you handling longer vids? does it choke on those? also, you using any specific obsidian plugins to make this work smoother? might wanna check out dataview if you haven’t already - could be a game changer for organizing all that youtube content.
