How to change the name of an existing JIRA project

I’m trying to figure out how to modify the actual project name in JIRA, not the project key which I understand cannot be changed. I’m working with JIRA Cloud and my project already contains multiple tickets in various states including open and closed issues. I’ve been looking through the project settings but can’t locate the option to update the project name. Does anyone know where this setting is located or if there are any restrictions when a project has existing tickets? Any help would be appreciated since I need to rebrand this project but keep all the existing work items intact.

To change your project name in JIRA Cloud, click the gear icon in the sidebar’s lower corner to access project settings. Locate the ‘Details’ section where you will find the ‘Name’ field, which can be edited directly. From my experience, renaming projects with numerous existing tickets hasn’t caused any issues. While the project key remains unchanged, the display name can be updated at any time without affecting your current issues or their statuses.

I’ve done this several times - no worries about existing tickets. Go to your project sidebar and find the settings option (might be a gear icon depending on your theme). In project administration, look for Details or General - you’ll see an editable Name field there. The change happens right away and won’t mess with your tickets, workflows, or project history. Just heads up - some integrations or bookmarks might show the old name until they refresh.

u can change it in project settings > details. just make sure u have admin access or it won’t show up. did it last month and it was all good with my tickets.
