How to convert Figma animations into GIF format

Converting Figma Animation to GIF

I’ve been working on an animated prototype in Figma and now I need to save it as a GIF file. I’ve tried looking through the export options but I can’t seem to find a direct way to do this.

The animation has multiple frames and transitions that I want to preserve in the final GIF output. I’m wondering if there’s a built-in feature I’m missing or if I need to use some external tools to make this work.

Has anyone successfully exported their Figma animations as GIF files before? What’s the best workflow for this? I’d appreciate any step-by-step guidance or tool recommendations that could help me achieve this.

i feel ya, exporting can be tricky! I usually just screen record the animation and then use ezgif to turn that into a gif. It’s not perfect but it works for me. hope that helps!

Figma doesn’t export GIFs natively, which is honestly annoying since everyone needs this. Here’s what works: record your prototype in Figma (hit the record button in prototype view), then convert that MP4 to GIF with CloudConvert or whatever converter you like. You’ll get better quality than screen recording since Figma captures clean frame transitions. Just dial in your animation timing first - you can’t change it after recording.
