Hey everyone! I recently switched to Figma since Adobe XD is no longer available for free. I’m trying to figure out if Figma has a feature that shows the spacing measurements between ruler lines, similar to what Adobe XD offered.
In XD, when you placed guides or rulers, you could see the exact pixel distance between them displayed automatically. This was really helpful for maintaining consistent spacing in designs.
Does Figma have something similar? I’ve been looking through the settings but can’t seem to find this option. Maybe I’m missing something obvious?
Coming from XD too, so I get the frustration. Here’s what worked for me: get familiar with Smart Selection. Select multiple objects and you’ll see spacing between them right in the properties panel - blue indicators show up and you can type exact values. I also use align tools with distribute spacing. Select your elements, then hit distribute horizontal/vertical with custom values. Not as automatic as XD’s rulers, but it becomes second nature once you build it into your workflow. Actually gives you better precision since you’re working with exact numbers instead of visual guides.
Figma’s spacing works differently than XD, but it’s way more intuitive once you get the hang of it. Select any object and hover over nearby elements - you’ll see red lines showing exact pixel distances. No need for rulers. Want more precision? Hold Alt while hovering between objects. Shows exact spacing instantly. Also check out Layout Grid in the Design panel - perfect for keeping spacing consistent across your whole design. Honestly prefer it to XD’s ruler system now, just takes a bit to learn.
Transitioning from XD to Figma can certainly be a challenge, especially when it comes to spacing. While Figma lacks the ruler spacing feature, it offers an intuitive way to measure distances. By selecting an object and hovering near others, you’ll see tooltips that display the exact pixel distances. Additionally, you can utilize the distribute spacing feature for uniformity. A useful trick is to create invisible rectangles representing your standard spacing (like 8px or 16px) to act as guides. It may take some time to adjust, but you’ll find it beneficial for maintaining consistent layouts.
figma doesn’t have that ruler spacing like XD, but u can use a plugin called ‘measure’. just search for it in plugins and it helps a lot. also, if u select guides, the right panel shows their positions. not as smooth, but gets the job done!
