After a recent IntelliJ update, I keep seeing an “AI Assistant” option at the top of my intentions popup menu. This is really annoying since I don’t have the JetBrains AI subscription and can’t use it anyway. The option appears every time I press Alt+Enter to see quick fixes.
I’m running IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate 2024.3 on macOS and want to completely remove this AI suggestion from appearing.
What I’ve already tried:
Turning off AI assistant in project settings
Looking for AI Assistant options in Editor > Intentions settings
None of these steps worked and the AI option still shows up. Is there a way to permanently disable this feature from the intentions menu?
Had the same issue. Disabling the plugin alone didn’t suffice for me. Navigate to Settings > Editor > General > Code Completion and disable any AI-related completion options. Additionally, check Settings > Tools for any AI Assistant features still active in the background. I discovered a separate AI completion service that remained enabled despite adjusting the main AI Assistant settings. After disabling these additional features and restarting the IDE, the intentions menu returned to normal without any AI suggestions cluttering Alt+Enter.
Had the same problem after upgrading to 2024.3. What fixed it for me was completely disabling the AI Assistant plugin, not just tweaking the settings. Go to File > Settings > Plugins, find “AI Assistant” and uncheck it. You’ll need to restart IntelliJ. This kills the AI suggestions in the intentions menu for good since the plugin’s totally off. Way more effective than messing around with the individual settings.
have u tried resetting ur intellij settings? sometimes that clears up weird stuff like this. also, maybe check the updates/patch notes if there’s a fix for it.
