How to insert landscape oriented pages within a portrait Google Docs document

I’m creating a document in Google Docs that’s set up in portrait mode. I need to add a wide table that would fit better on a landscape page. Is it possible to change just one or two pages to landscape orientation while keeping the rest of the document in portrait mode? I already tried adding page breaks and then changing the page orientation, but that changed the entire document instead of just the pages I wanted. Has anyone figured out how to do this? I would really appreciate any suggestions or workarounds.

Indeed, Google Docs struggles with landscape tables, which can be quite frustrating. I’ve encountered similar challenges and discovered a few effective workarounds. One approach is to break large tables into smaller sections that fit the portrait format, or you could simplify the data by eliminating unnecessary columns. I often create the table in Google Sheets, as it manages wider datasets much more efficiently, then take a screenshot of the necessary part to insert into the document. This method isn’t flawless, but it maintains a smoother reading experience without requiring anyone to adjust their screen orientation or deal with printing issues.

Google Docs currently does not support mixed page orientations within a single document, an issue that has frustrated many users for years. In similar situations, I found success by creating landscape content in a separate Google Doc and then inserting it as an image or linking it back to the main document. Another option is to rotate tables 90 degrees to fit them, although this may not be ideal for all users. If mixed orientations are essential, consider using Google Slides for presentations, or switch to Microsoft Word, which better accommodates varied orientations.

yeah, this is def a major downside of google docs compared to word. i usually just make the table smaller by narrowing the columns and reducing the font size. not perfect, but it usually helps. if you’re looking at it, try rotating your phone or tablet for a better view.
