I’m having trouble pasting rich text into Google Sheets. When I try to paste it just goes into multiple columns. I want it all in one column.
I’ve tried using CTRL+SHIFT+V but it doesn’t work. I know I’ve done this before but I can’t remember how.
Does anyone know a trick to make this work? I’ve searched online but most results are about splitting text into columns which is the opposite of what I need.
It would be great if someone could explain how to do this step-by-step. Thanks for any help!
I’ve encountered this problem before and found an effective workaround. Instead of pasting directly into the cell, double-click the target cell first to open it for editing. Once in editing mode, use Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on a Mac) to paste your text. This method tends to keep your formatted text consolidated in a single cell. If you continue to face issues, it may help to inspect your source text for hidden formatting or special characters that might be disrupting the process.
As someone who frequently works with Google Sheets, I’ve found a reliable method for pasting formatted text into a single column. First, paste your text into a plain text editor like Notepad to strip any formatting. Then, copy this clean version and paste it into your desired cell in Google Sheets. This approach ensures all content stays in one column.
Another trick I’ve discovered is using the ‘Paste special’ feature, but with a twist. After copying your text, right-click on the target cell in Sheets, select ‘Paste special’, then choose ‘Paste transposed’. This often works when other methods fail, keeping your text intact in a single column.
Remember, if you’re dealing with a large amount of text, you might need to adjust the row height to see everything. Hope this helps solve your formatting woes!
