Hey everyone! I’m having a bit of trouble with Google Docs tables. Does anyone know how to get rid of those pesky drop-down arrows for cell borders? They show up in every cell and it’s driving me nuts!
I’m not a tech whiz, just a regular user who knows their way around most features. I’m using Chrome as my browser.
(Side note: I’m stuck with Windows 7 on my laptop. Got it for free but can’t find a way to upgrade to Windows 10 without paying. Any tips on that would be great too!)
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! It would make my document editing so much smoother.
I’ve been using Google Docs for years, and I remember stumbling upon this issue too. It can be quite frustrating! Unfortunately, there’s no built-in setting to remove those cell border options permanently. It’s a feature Google implemented to make table editing easier, but I agree it can be distracting.
A workaround I’ve found is to zoom out your document view. At around 75% zoom, those arrows tend to disappear. It’s not perfect, but it helps when you’re working on the overall layout. When you need to edit specifics, just zoom back in.
As for Windows 7, I was in the same boat last year. Have you tried the Microsoft Media Creation Tool? It sometimes allows free upgrades to Windows 10. Just be sure to back up your data first. If that doesn’t work, you might want to consider Linux. It’s free and runs well on older hardware. Good luck with both your Docs and Windows issues!
Having worked extensively with Google Docs, I can confirm there’s no direct way to remove those cell border options permanently. It’s an inherent feature of their table functionality. However, I’ve found a practical solution that might help.
Consider using the ‘Print Layout’ view instead of the default ‘Editing’ view. In Print Layout, those border options are typically hidden, giving you a cleaner interface to work with. To switch, go to View > Print Layout in the menu.
Regarding your Windows 7 situation, I’d caution against using unsupported operating systems due to security risks. If upgrading isn’t feasible, consider exploring open-source alternatives like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. They’re free, secure, and often perform well on older hardware.
hey there! i’ve had the same issue. try this: go to File > Page setup > uncheck ‘Show table outline’. it hides those annoying arrows. works for me most of the time!
for windows 7, check out linux mint. it’s free and works great on older laptops. goodluck!
