Hey everyone,
Our company is working with a new partner who wants all emails from our domain to be S/MIME encrypted. It’s part of their security rules. Plus, our own policies say we need to encrypt everything, no exceptions.
I’m wondering if there’s a way to do this for the whole domain (like @ourcompany.com) instead of getting separate certificates for each person. Has anyone done this before? It seems like a hassle to manage individual certs for everyone.
Any tips on how to set this up in Gmail? Or if it’s even possible? Thanks for any help!
As someone who’s been through this process, I can attest that setting up domain-wide S/MIME encryption for Gmail is achievable, albeit with some challenges. We utilized a wildcard certificate for our domain, which significantly streamlined the process. The key is proper configuration in the Google Admin Console. It’s crucial to test thoroughly with your partner to ensure compatibility. One often overlooked aspect is user training; we found that educating our staff on the basics of S/MIME and how it affects their email usage was essential for a smooth transition. Also, be prepared for potential issues with mobile devices and third-party email clients. Regular monitoring and maintenance are necessary to keep everything running smoothly.
I’ve implemented domain-wide S/MIME encryption for our organization and found it both feasible and effective with Gmail. We acquired a wildcard certificate from a reputable certificate authority, which allowed us to avoid the hassle of managing individual certificates. After configuring the certificate in the Google Admin Console, the setup became mostly automated, reducing administrative overhead. One important factor is ensuring that the partner’s system can properly handle S/MIME encrypted emails, as we experienced a few compatibility issues early on.
yo, ive done this b4. u gotta get a wildcard cert for ur domain. then u set it up in the Google admin console. its not too bad once u figure it out. just make sure ur partner can handle S/MIME emails or itll be a headache. good luck!
