Hey everyone! I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some guidance. I’ve made it to the hiring manager interview stage at Hubspot, which is awesome. But here’s the thing - they sent me this prep email saying I can’t use any notes during the interview. They’re planning to ask 6-7 behavioral questions that need specific STAR answers.
As someone with AuADHD, I’m really struggling with this. I can maybe remember two answers tops, but beyond that, I always rely on my notes. I’m worried this might put me at a disadvantage.
Has anyone gone through Hubspot’s interview process before? Did you face similar challenges? I’m wondering if I should reach out to the recruiter about needing an accommodation for this. Any thoughts or experiences would be super helpful!
I’ve been through HubSpot’s interview process, and I can relate to your concerns. The no-notes policy is indeed challenging, especially for those of us who struggle with recall under pressure. Here’s what worked for me:
I created a mental ‘cheat sheet’ by categorizing my experiences into broad themes like ‘leadership,’ ‘problem-solving,’ and ‘teamwork.’ This way, I could quickly access relevant stories for different question types.
Also, I found it helpful to practice with a friend who asked me random behavioral questions. This improved my ability to think on my feet and adapt my experiences to fit various scenarios.
That said, if you feel this policy significantly hinders your ability to showcase your skills, it’s absolutely worth reaching out to the recruiter about accommodations. Many companies are becoming more understanding of neurodiversity needs.
Remember, the goal is to demonstrate your capabilities, not your memorization skills. Good luck with your interview!
hey there, i’ve been thru hubspot’s process b4. tbh their no-notes policy is pretty strict. if u need accommodations, def reach out to the recruiter asap. they might make an exception. otherwise, try practicing ur answers out loud a bunch. good luck with the interview!
I went through HubSpot’s interview process recently and encountered the same no-notes policy. It’s challenging, especially for those of us who rely on written cues. My advice would be to focus on preparing a few key stories that can be adapted to various behavioral questions. Practice verbalizing these stories multiple times to ingrain them in your memory. Additionally, don’t hesitate to ask for a moment to collect your thoughts during the interview. Most interviewers are understanding if you need a brief pause. If you feel strongly that this policy significantly impacts your ability to showcase your skills, reaching out to the recruiter about accommodations is a valid option. Remember, they’re interested in your capabilities, not your memorization skills.
