HubSpot technical interview process insights needed

I’m currently working as an Account Executive and trying to move into a Sales Engineer position at HubSpot. I just made it past the first round and now I have to do their technical evaluation step. This happens right before the demo presentation part of their interview process.

Since this is my first time doing a technical interview like this, I’m wondering what format they usually use and how I should get ready for it. I’m not really sure what to expect.

Do they usually ask questions that focus on their actual platform and features? Like maybe something about importing large amounts of customer data or setting up specific workflows?

Or do they go more for general technical knowledge? Things like explaining how different systems talk to each other or what happens when integrations break?

Any tips from people who have been through this before would be really helpful. I want to make sure I’m studying the right stuff.

Having gone through HubSpot’s technical evaluation myself about two years ago for a similar role transition, I can share what worked for me. The technical portion was actually a mix of both platform-specific scenarios and broader technical concepts. They presented me with a realistic customer scenario where I had to walk through how I would approach solving their integration challenges using HubSpot’s tools. What caught me off guard was that they really wanted to see my problem-solving process rather than just knowing the exact features. I spent too much time memorizing specific workflow steps when I should have focused more on understanding the underlying logic of how data flows between systems. The interviewer was more interested in hearing me think through potential roadblocks and alternative solutions than getting every technical detail perfect. Make sure you can speak confidently about API basics and common integration pain points that customers face. Practice explaining technical concepts in simple terms since that’s essentially what you’ll be doing in the role.
