I’m having trouble with the Google Drive Revision History download feature. It’s acting weird. Some files download fine but others just hang there. It’s not just in the SDK either. When I try to get old versions through the Google Drive website it does the same thing.
Is this because the revisions aren’t saved permanently? Maybe only the pinned ones stick around? But I don’t see any pins on the revisions I’m looking at.
Has anyone else run into this? It’s really frustrating when I’m trying to get older versions of my files. Sometimes the download starts but then just stops. Other times it works perfectly. I can’t figure out the pattern.
Is there a fix for this or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be great. Thanks!
hey Grace, i’ve had similar issues. sometimes it’s just google being wonky. have u tried clearing ur cache and cookies? that might help. also, check ur internet connection - slow speeds can mess with downloads. if nothing works, maybe contact google support? they might know what’s up.
I’ve dealt with this exact problem, and it’s a real pain. From what I’ve gathered, Google Drive’s revision history can be finicky, especially with older or larger files. One trick that’s worked for me is to try downloading revisions in chronological order. Start with the earliest and work your way up. Sometimes this ‘unsticks’ later versions. Another thing to watch out for is your storage quota. If you’re close to your limit, Drive might struggle with downloads. It’s worth checking and maybe clearing out some space if needed. As for the hanging downloads, I’ve had success by canceling and immediately retrying. It’s not ideal, but it often kickstarts the process. If all else fails, I’ve resorted to screenshotting important changes when I can’t download them. Not perfect, but it’s saved me a few times when dealing with crucial revisions.
I’ve encountered this issue as well, and it can indeed be frustrating. In my experience, the inconsistency often stems from the file size and complexity. Larger files or those with numerous revisions tend to be more problematic. I’ve found that using a VPN sometimes helps bypass these issues, possibly due to different server connections. Additionally, try downloading during off-peak hours when Google’s servers might be less busy. If the problem persists, consider using the Google Drive API for more reliable access to revision history, though this requires some technical know-how. Ultimately, if critical revisions are at stake, manually backing up important versions might be the safest approach.
