Hey everyone, I’m experiencing an unusual issue with my business Instagram account. Previously, we were able to locate our custom GIFs on Giphy while adding them to our Stories. We created these unique graphics and uploaded them to Giphy for users to find them using our brand name.
However, now when I try to add GIFs to our Stories, it only fetches results from Tenor instead of Giphy. This is a problem because our custom content is only available on Giphy. Interestingly, when I switch to my personal account on the same device, it still defaults to Giphy for GIF searches.
Has anyone else faced a similar situation? I initially thought it might be a problem with my phone settings, but that doesn’t seem to be the issue since it works differently based on the account type. This situation is reminiscent of when they altered photo formats, resulting in different features for business and personal profiles.
I’m really hoping this isn’t a permanent change because Tenor lacks the variety that Giphy provides.
Yeah, this is happening to business accounts right now. Same thing hit us two weeks ago - our marketing team couldn’t find any of our branded GIFs.
Looks like Instagram’s A/B testing different GIF providers for business accounts. Some got switched to Tenor, others still have Giphy. No official word on it though.
We uploaded our GIFs to Tenor too, just in case. Pain having to manage both platforms, but at least our stuff shows up again.
I’d upload to Tenor as backup. That way your custom GIFs work no matter which provider Instagram throws at your account.
This hit us last month too. Our account manager said Instagram’s slowly rolling out Tenor for business profiles, but no clue if it’s replacing Giphy or just adding to it. We contacted Instagram Business Support through the app and they escalated it - got Giphy back in 48 hours. They warned it might be temporary though. Definitely worth trying if you rely heavily on custom GIFs. The fact that personal and business accounts work differently screams ‘testing phase’ to me. I’d grab screenshots and submit feedback through their business tools - they actually respond to business accounts way faster than personal ones.
totally get it! switching to Tenor is a bummer. i logged out n back too, but still no giphy. fingers crossed they sort this out soon, its tough not havin ur custom gifs available.
