Is it possible to automate DM sending to new Twitter followers using Zapier?

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to set up an automated system to welcome new Twitter followers. I know Zapier has a trigger for new followers, but I’m not sure about the next step.

Can anyone tell me if it’s possible to use Zapier’s code actions (JavaScript or Python) to connect with the Twitter API and automatically send a DM to each new follower?

I’m not super tech-savvy, so I’m hoping there’s a straightforward way to do this. Has anyone tried something similar before? Any tips or advice would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance for your help!

hey tom, i’ve tried this before. zapier can’t do it directly cuz of twitter’s rules. but you could use zapier to add new followers to a spreadsheet, then use another tool to send DMs. not fully automatic but works ok. just be careful not to spam people or twitter might get mad

I’ve actually implemented a similar system using a combination of tools. While Zapier can’t directly send DMs due to Twitter’s API limitations, there’s a workaround that’s been effective for me. I use Zapier to trigger on new followers and send their details to Airtable. Then, I’ve set up an integration with a tool called Tweepi, which allows for bulk DM sending within Twitter’s guidelines. It’s not fully automated, but it’s pretty close. The key is to keep your messages personalized and not too salesy to avoid any issues with Twitter. This approach has helped me engage new followers without running afoul of Twitter’s rules. Just remember to monitor your engagement rates and adjust your strategy accordingly.

While Zapier can trigger on new Twitter followers, automating DMs through it isn’t straightforward due to Twitter’s API restrictions. I’ve explored this and found it’s not directly possible with Zapier alone. However, you might consider using a dedicated social media management tool like Hootsuite or Buffer, which often have this functionality built-in. These platforms are designed for less tech-savvy users and offer more Twitter-specific features. Alternatively, if you’re set on using Zapier, you could set it up to add new followers to a spreadsheet, then use that data for a manual outreach strategy. It’s not fully automated, but it’s a workable compromise that doesn’t violate Twitter’s terms of service.
