Is it time to move away from Gmail and what's the easiest way to migrate?

I’ve been thinking about whether Gmail is still the best choice for my email needs. I’m curious about alternatives and wondering if making the switch would be worth it. My main concern is how complicated it might be to transition everything over. I have so many online accounts tied to my current Gmail address - shopping sites, social media, banking, work stuff, you name it. The thought of updating all those email addresses seems overwhelming. Has anyone here made the jump from Gmail to another email service? What was your experience like? Are there any tools or methods that make changing your email address across multiple platforms less of a headache? I’d really appreciate hearing about different email providers and any tips for making this kind of transition smoother.

Switched from Gmail to Fastmail two years ago - wish I’d done it way sooner. The migration isn’t as scary as it looks if you break it into phases. I just forwarded Gmail to the new account and slowly updated services over a few months. Banking stuff was easy - most have simple email change options in settings. The real pain was remembering all those random subscriptions I’d forgotten about. What saved me was going through a year of Gmail to see what I actually got, then updating the important stuff first. Fastmail’s interface was weird at first but the privacy boost and no ads made it worth it. Don’t rush it - keep both accounts running during the switch.

i moved to protonmail too! took my time as well, keeping my gmail for a bit while i switched. most stuff was easy, just a few banks gave me issues. but overall, it wasn’t too bad!

Switched to Apple iCloud Mail 18 months ago - way smoother than I thought it’d be. First thing I did was export all my important emails from Gmail as backup. Then set up forwarding from Gmail to my new address, which gave me time to update accounts slowly. Honestly, I was shocked by how many services I didn’t even need to update. Had tons of old accounts I’d completely forgotten about that weren’t worth the hassle anyway. The whole thing actually forced me to clean up my digital mess. Banking and important stuff was easy to change, but some older websites had garbage account management that made it annoying. Still worth it though - love having a cleaner inbox without all the Google stuff I never wanted anyway.
