Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about creating an app that would print out Jira tickets on paper. It sounds simple, but I estimate it might take around 5 months to build properly. I’m wondering if this is a good use of time and resources.
Has anyone worked on something similar? What are your thoughts on the potential benefits or drawbacks of such a tool? I’m particularly interested in hearing about:
- How it might improve workflow
- Possible integration challenges
- Whether physical copies are still relevant in most workplaces
I’d really appreciate any insights or experiences you could share. Thanks in advance for your input!
Having worked extensively with Jira in various project management roles, I’d caution against dedicating 5 months to a ticket printing application. The trend is firmly towards digital workflows, and physical tickets often become outdated quickly. Instead, consider investing that time in developing integrations or plugins that enhance Jira’s digital capabilities. These could include improved visualization tools, automated reporting features, or cross-platform synchronization. Such additions are likely to have a more substantial impact on team productivity and align better with modern project management practices. If you’re set on pursuing this idea, I’d recommend conducting a thorough needs assessment across different industries to identify any niche demand before committing significant resources.
As someone who’s worked in various tech environments, I can say that dedicating 5 months to a Jira ticket printing app might not be the best use of resources. In my experience, most teams are moving away from physical copies, embracing digital workflows instead. We tried something similar at my previous company, but it ended up gathering dust.
That said, there might be niche markets where this could be useful - perhaps in highly regulated industries or for teams with specific accessibility needs. However, the integration challenges with Jira’s API and keeping the app updated with Jira’s frequent changes could be substantial.
If you’re set on pursuing this, I’d suggest doing thorough market research first. Maybe create a quick prototype and get feedback from potential users before committing 5 months. There might be more valuable projects that could have a bigger impact on team productivity.
5 months for a Jira ticket printer? Yikes, that’s overkill. Most teams r going paperless these days. Maybe spend a week on a quick prototype & see if anyone actually wants it? Could be useful for some oldschool folks, but prob not worth the hassle. Just my 2 cents.
