Is n8n suitable for our SaaS marketing content creation?

Hey folks,

We’ve got a SaaS that makes marketing stuff for our customers. We’ve built a bunch of AI things ourselves, but now we’re thinking about moving some to n8n.

We’re looking at the ‘Pro’ cloud plan, but I’m scratching my head over whether we can use it or not. The license is kinda confusing.

It talks about not using user credentials and only using it for internal business or non-commercial stuff. But then there’s this whole thing about embedding AI chatbots being okay.

We tried emailing them about it, but no luck getting an answer.

So what’s the deal? Can we use the cloud version for our SaaS? Does this license even apply to the cloud stuff?

Anyone got experience with this? We’re a bit stuck here and could use some advice!

I’ve been in a similar situation with n8n licensing for our SaaS product. From our experience, the cloud version isn’t ideal for commercial SaaS applications. The restrictions on user credentials and non-commercial use are indeed limiting for your use case. We ended up opting for self-hosting n8n, which gave us more control and aligned better with our needs. It required more setup and maintenance, but it resolved the licensing concerns. You might want to explore that route or consider alternative workflow automation tools that explicitly allow commercial SaaS integrations. Have you looked into Zapier or Make (formerly Integromat) as potential alternatives?

hey ethan, n8n’s licensing can be tricky. from what i’ve seen, the cloud version might not work for ur saas. it seems more for internal use, not commercial stuff. maybe look into self-hosting? that might give u more flexibility for ur biz. good luck figuring it out!

I’ve been using n8n for a while now, and I can tell you it’s not straightforward when it comes to SaaS applications. From my experience, the cloud version isn’t really meant for what you’re trying to do. The licensing is pretty restrictive for commercial use, especially when it comes to handling user data.

Have you considered going the self-hosted route? It’s what we ended up doing, and it gives you a lot more flexibility. It’s more work to set up and maintain, but it solved our licensing headaches. Plus, you have full control over your data and workflows.

If self-hosting isn’t an option, you might want to look at other automation tools that are more SaaS-friendly. Zapier or Automate.io could be worth checking out. They’re designed with commercial use in mind, so you won’t run into the same licensing issues.

Whatever you decide, make sure you get clear answers on the licensing. It’s not worth the risk of building your business on shaky legal ground.
