I’m trying to figure out if Google Docs has a feature similar to Microsoft Word’s dropdown menus. In Word, you can make a list of options that users can choose from. It’s really handy for forms and stuff.
Does anyone know if Google Docs has something like this built-in? Or maybe there’s an add-on that can do it? I don’t want to use Google Sheets because it’s overkill for what I need.
I just want to add a few dropdown menus to my document. Nothing fancy. Any ideas?
hey there! i’ve been using google docs for a while now and sadly, there’s no built-in dropdown feature but don’t worry! there’s a neat trick u can try. use the ‘comments’ feature to add options. just highlight the text, click ‘insert comment’, and list ur choices there. it’s not perfect, but it works in a pinch. hope this helps!
Having used Google Docs extensively, I’ve noticed that there isn’t a built-in dropdown feature like in Microsoft Word. One workaround is to embed a Google Form into your document to gather the selections. You first create a Google Form with your dropdown questions, then insert the form into your Doc from the Insert menu. Although the integration isn’t perfect and the form might not visually match your document’s style, it effectively collects responses into an associated spreadsheet. I’ve applied this method in project planning documents, and it has proven to be a real time-saver.
Unfortunately, Google Docs doesn’t have a built-in feature for creating dropdown menus like Microsoft Word does. However, there’s a workaround you might find useful. You can use the ‘Tables’ feature to simulate a dropdown menu. Create a single-cell table for each dropdown, then use the ‘Protect’ function to limit editing to that cell. Users can then type their selection into the cell, choosing from a list you provide elsewhere in the document. It’s not as elegant as a true dropdown, but it achieves a similar result. Alternatively, if you’re open to using add-ons, ‘Form Publisher’ or ‘Doc Tools’ offer more advanced form-creation capabilities within Google Docs, including dropdown-like functions.
