Is there a way to include subscript or superscript in Notion blocks?

I recently switched from OneNote to Notion for note-taking. While Notion is great in many ways, I’m struggling with one feature. Does anyone know how to add subscript or superscript text in Notion blocks?

I’m trying to write something like H2O with the 2 as a subscript, but I can’t figure out how to do it. In OneNote, this was easy, but I can’t find the option in Notion.

Is there a special keyboard shortcut or a hidden feature I’m missing? Or does Notion not support this at all? Any help would be much appreciated!

As a long-time Notion user, I’ve encountered this limitation too. Unfortunately, Notion doesn’t natively support subscript or superscript text within blocks. It’s a bit frustrating, especially when you’re used to having these options in other note-taking apps.

However, I’ve found a workaround that might help. You can use Unicode characters for subscript and superscript numbers. For example, for H₂O, you can copy and paste the subscript 2 (₂) from a Unicode table online. It’s not ideal, but it gets the job done for basic needs.

Another option is to use LaTeX equations for more complex formulas. Notion supports LaTeX, which allows for proper formatting of mathematical expressions. Just type ‘/equation’ and then enter your LaTeX code.

These aren’t perfect solutions, but they’ve helped me manage without built-in subscript and superscript features. Hopefully, Notion will add this functionality in a future update.

I’ve been using Notion for a while now, and I’ve found that the lack of native subscript and superscript support can be a bit of a pain. While the Unicode workaround is functional, it’s not ideal for frequent use. I’ve taken to using inline code blocks for simple cases like H2O, which at least makes the numbers stand out visually. For more complex formulas, I second the suggestion to use LaTeX equations. It’s a bit of a learning curve if you’re not familiar with LaTeX, but it’s powerful once you get the hang of it. I’ve also reached out to Notion support about this feature request. They didn’t give a timeline, but acknowledged it’s a common ask. In the meantime, these workarounds have to suffice.

yeah, notion’s missing some basic stuff. i use the unicode trick too, but it’s kinda annoying. for H₂O, i just google ‘subscript 2’ and copy-paste. not great, but works. maybe we should bug notion to add this feature? seems like alot of ppl want it.
