Hey everyone! I’m really frustrated right now and could use some advice. Yesterday I was working on a mobile app mockup in Figma when I accidentally deleted an entire artboard that contained hours of work. I thought Figma automatically saves everything but I can’t seem to find my deleted content anywhere. Does anyone know if there’s a version history feature or some other method to get back deleted frames? I’ve tried looking through the menus but nothing seems obvious. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Check your browser cache first. When Figma glitches during deletion, frame data sometimes stays cached locally even though it looks gone from the cloud. Close Figma completely, clear your cache, then reopen the file. I recovered a deleted prototype this way last year when version history didn’t work. If you’re in a team file, ask collaborators to check their browsers - they might still see your work in older sessions. Have them duplicate any frames they can see before refreshing.
Everyone nailed the manual recovery stuff, but here’s what I figured out after this same nightmare hit multiple team projects.
The real problem isn’t just fixing it once - it’s stopping it from happening again. Digging through manual backups and version history gets old quick on complex projects.
I built automated Figma backups with Latenode that run every few hours. Connects to Figma’s API, snapshots all my key files, timestamps everything, and pings me when done.
Best part? I automated the restore too. When someone on the team screws up, I just trigger a workflow that grabs the last good backup. No more digging through version history.
20 minutes to set up, zero stress about lost work ever since. Beats manual recovery by miles.

Ugh, same thing happened to me! Quick heads up - paid Figma plans keep version history for 30 days, but free accounts only get a few snapshots. Also try right-clicking in the layers panel for a “show hidden layers” option. Sometimes stuff just gets hidden instead of actually deleted.
Version history has saved me multiple times. To access it, click the file name at the top and look for the clock icon or a dropdown menu. Figma retains a history of weeks, depending on file activity. A useful tip is to duplicate essential frames before making significant changes. The restore feature is efficient, but you will lose any work done after your last good version. Additionally, check your team files’ trash as deleted items sometimes end up there instead of disappearing completely. Your recovery odds depend on how recent the deletion was.
Had the same panic attack last month when I accidentally nuked a whole component system. Version history is your best shot, but check a few other things first. Spam Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z) - Figma’s undo goes pretty deep. Your frame might’ve just gotten dragged off the canvas instead of deleted. Hit Ctrl+A then zoom to fit and see if it shows up. Also check the layers panel - maybe it’s just hidden or buried in a group. I found my ‘deleted’ work sitting in version history from 30 minutes before I screwed up.
aww man, that sux! try checking the version history in the top menu under “file”. sometimes you can roll back to an earlier save. also make sure you’re lookin in the right page, frames can be hiding in layers.
